It was suggested to me by several peers that I start to combine my collages with my sculpture. I started on this piece by making tons and tons of paper using spray paint to leave patterns and marks. I cut diamonds out and started layering them on to the form. I am commemorating living in a house with two wonderful women, where we conversed around a bonfire in the summer. More updates to come soon!

Bonfire Collage

Down by the water
I found a scrap piece of plywood in the wood shop scrap box. I liked the door shape that it left and I imagined a tunnel to another place. I made this for one of my best friends, Sarah. There was a monumental tragedy in her life and I wasn't physically there to reassure her that she was loved. For the week that I had to wait to see her, I made this little collage as a coping mechanism but also because I wanted her to know that I was thinking about her. I was inspired by a song by The Drums, "Down by the water," the lyrics expressed my feelings, almost exactly. Songs rarely do that for me.
DOWN BY THE WATER
(selected lyrics)
You've gotta believe me when I say
When I say the word "forever"
And whatever comes your way
We'll still be here together
I know it's hard, I know it's hard
But I understand you, just take my hand
If you fall asleep down by the water
Baby, I'll carry you all the way home
If you fall asleep down by the water
Baby, I'll carry you all the way home

Glitter Mountain

Glitter Mountain
12"x12"
Each piece of paper is hand sprayed by me, using lace and string to create unique patterns. I then cut up these papers into small triangles. I wanted to create a pile, using the triangles to create dimension and a glittery affect. After adhering the triangles to the bare wood, I used fluorescent orange to create a raining acid mist. The piece is framed in yellow painted lattice and is ready to hang.

Ice cream cone Mountain

CLOUD MOUNTAIN
7"x7" (collage without frame)
8.5"x8.5" (collage with frame)
I wanted to make a magical little island that floats in the sky. I added hot pink crystal mountains and a row of green trees. The mountainous landscape is growing from a batch of different colored clouds beneath it.

Magic Mountain Horizon & Crystal Ball

10"x13" (collage)
11.5"x14.5" (collage with frame)
I got some new spray paint, fluorescent green, pink and yellow. I wanted to make something extremely bright, colorful and fun. To create the mountains, I laid down string and sprayed bright yellow, pink and green on top. I then misted some white, to make it resemble a beautiful starry night. I created several dozens of unique papers, using lace and string to create patterns, I then used these papers to create the trees, sky and triangle collage beneath it.

Alien Pirate Ship

12"x12" Original painting and collage on a thick, gallery style canvas, ready to hang. You can frame it if you really want to, but the thick canvas alone makes it look great hanging on the wall. I used very thin acrylics mixed with water to create the background. I didn't have any pre-planned idea of what I was going to make, I simply wanted to enjoy the act of painting. The only colors I used were cobalt blue, red and yellow. The result was this weird watery-blue/green sky and raining red clouds. Next I started to cut and rearrange some tall triangles that reminded me of a sail boat, by adding more triangles started to resemble a pirate ship.Available Here: www.danalynnharper.etsy.com
