Bridal Shower

This piece is made with 300 hollowed out eggs shells that were then attached to a string of Christmas lights. I found sheer curtains at the thrift store and sewed the two together to create a fabric basket to hold the eggs. The fabric satchel is hung over a wooden pole that is attached to the wall. This piece addresses the reliance on marriage to feel complete or happy. By hiding the glowing eggs beneath a confining yet beautiful fabric, I am addressing the allure and confining quality of family and domestic life.

I also wanted to show images of this piece with the lights off, it glows quite a bit more.

Balloons Climbing Ladder

19.5"x26"

This is a spray paint "drawing" on light ice blue canson paper. First I laid down a doily table cloth on top of the naked paper and sprayed teal on top to get an overall pattern. The gray "smoke" is created by laying down string and then spraying over it with gray. I then created a ladder pattern with thin line masking tape and sprayed red on top. For the final touch, I dripped baby pink and teal on top of the paper.

Aliens

19.5"x26"

Several layers of spray paint on canson paper. I used masking tape and pieces of paper as a stencil. To create the smokey green affect at the bottom, I laid string on top of the created pattern and sprayed moss green on top of it. I like to think of the diamond shape as a space ship that is rising above the ground.

Owl Goblin

19.5"x26"

I laid a lace table cloth over a baby pink piece of canson paper. I sprayed over the lace with gray and gray brown. I then laid down a pile of string on top of the pattern and sprayed white over top, to create a glowing creature.

Atmosphere

18"x24"

Painted on lilac canson paper. I laid down string on top of the paper and then sprayed a gray primer on it. After lifting the string, I used automotive decal tape to create the triangle designs and sprayed white and teal spray paint on top.

Dan Deacon Spaceship

"Dan Deacon Spaceship"
24"x 24"

This was inspired by the music of Dan Deacon. I used cut paper that I had texture with spray paint. After the pieces were glued to the board I sprayed the piece with blue, pink and white spray paint to create some atmosphere.

Pantyhose Purse

Pantyhose Purse
3'6"x3'6"
Pantyhose, white string
Finally finished this thing!

While making this piece there was a lot of repetitive process. Stuffing the pantyhose with Polyfil, wrapping the white string around the intertwined pantyhose and finally threading and wrapping the handle. I began thinking about my morning routine or the steps I take before I go out at night. I was concerned about how much time I was wasting and how I sacrifice my comfort for fashion. By subjecting myself to a repetitive process, that was a bit painful at times, and letting it result in a completely impractical and over sized shoulder bag, I was able to focus on my own daily impractical processes.
